GE HealthCare Reveals New AI-Enabled Venue Family of Ultrasounds

GE HealthCare announced the latest advancement in its Venue family of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) systems. The Venue family now boasts new artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled tools and digital tools to boost confidence and efficiency.

The new Nerveblox AI-enabled feature automatically labels anatomical landmarks in the ultrasound image so clinicians can be confident during the peripheral nerve block procedure. Other AI-enabled and digital tools aim to simplify bladder volume measurements, as well as support complex and advanced ultrasound exams at the point of care.

According to the company, Nerveblox has shown a 97% anatomical structure identification accuracy. It allows Venue systems to support a variety of nerve blocks, helping clinicians conduct 12 of the most common types of regional anesthesia procedures.

Dr. Olivier Choquet, Montpellier University Hospital, France said that Nerveblox immediately impressed him by providing a clear, colorful image of the target area in under a second for multiple nerve blocks.

“I tested it with different approaches, and its performance should be excellent in helping the practitioner locate key anatomical structures before inserting the needle,” Dr. Choqiet told the press. “This feature is truly impressive.”

The latest Venue family ultrasounds also feature Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound to enable dynamic bedside evaluation of abdominal injuries and lesions. Auto Bladder Volume simplifies urinary bladder volume measurement from two views to reduce exam clicks. The feature is also available on the wireless Vscan Air CL probe that can connect to the Venue family systems.

Automated Function Imaging provides objective analysis of myocardial strain across heart chambers. In addition to the existing Caption Guidance AI-enabled software, which provides turn-by-turn, on-screen guidance to help expert and non-expert users capture diagnostic-quality cardiac ultrasound images.
